HOPS Accomplishments over the Years
- HOPS was established as a volunteer organization to preserve the history of our community (1980)
- Donated $9,038 towards the establishment of the Ocala Historic District (1984)
- Established the residential beautification awards program for the historic districts
- Spearheaded the re-construction of the gazebo on the downtown square (1987)
- Donated $9,000 towards the establishment of the Tuscawilla Historic District (1992)
- Donated $200 towards the creation of the Marion County Historical Museum (1993)
- Created a Fort King Street walking tour brochure (1993)
- Placed the Lake Weir Yacht Club on the National Historic Register (1993)
- Placed the Fessenden Elementary School on the National Historic Register (1994)
- Donated $5,000 towards an educational history program for eighth grade-students
- Worked with the City of Ocala to create decorative street signs (1998)
- Donated $1,000 towards the restoration of the historic Citra Bank building (1999)
- Donated $5,000 towards the establishment of the Downtown Historic District (1999)
- Created a driving and walking tour brochure (1999)
- Assisted in the placement of entrance markers to each historic district
- Restored the historic Snowden House on Sanchez Avenue (2000)
- Established the West Ocala Historic District (2002)
- Worked with the City of Ocala on traffic calming in the historic district (2002)
- Adopted ldylweir Park located on Southeast 10 Street (2004)
- Assisted the City of Ocala in obtaining National Landmark status.for the Fort King Heritage Site (2004)
- Sponsored the City of Ocala’s Pride-in-Bloom project (2005-2008)
- Contributed towards the installation of historic street lighting on Southeast 5th Street (2007)
- Donated $5,000 towards.the restoration of the South City Gates on First Avenue (2008)
- Purchased a $600 bench at the Marion County Veterans Park (2010)
- Donated $5,000 towards the relocation of the confederate memorial statue (2010)
- Donated $1,000 towards the Zion A.M.E. Church restoration (2011)
- Donated $6,000 towards the Marion Theatre restoration (2011)
- Donated $1,500 towards the installation of 12 bronze plaques in front of residences (2012)
- Restored the historic Bryant House on Fort King Street (2013)
- Donated $1,000 towards the First Presbyterian Church steeple restoration (2014)
- Donated $1,000 to the Fort King Heritage Site (2016)
- Assisted the City of Ocala in placing historic street lighting on Fort King St & Wenona Ave (2017)
- Created the OnCell historical marker program for the historic districts (2018)
- Donated $500 towards the Hughes historical marker honoring the A.N.T.A Hospital (2018)
- Created an Ocala Historic District walking tour brochure (2020)
- Donated $1,000 to the David Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund (2020)
